If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you. Jesus Gospel of Thomas
Dreamwork Charlottesville, VA
The way I see it, dreamwork is the art and methodology of exploring one's dreams to live a fuller, more conscious life.
Every single night, the vast majority of us humans are offered an opportunity—a vista of sorts—to see into ourselves. More particularly, to see into our "psyche," the tapestry of our various nuances, aspects, and selves. For some, the psyche remains a mystery throughout our entire lives. It lays unexplored, unmentioned, and unknown. What a shame. I know you're really worth knowing and knowing well.
Dreamwork is one of the oldest, most tried and true paths to explore, mention, and know our own psyche. In many cultures dreams are regarded as sacred gifts given to us, or "letters from God." Are you curious enough to open a few of them together?
Why work a dream?
Many people are intimidated by their dreams, or genuinely scared. I understand this. Dreams have a quality of mystery and power to them that western society doesn't quite jive with and so they remain unopened.
Every now and then, an incredibly powerful dream may come along that you can't help but to feel for days afterward. That's good. That's the beginning of dreamwork: simply feeling the dream. Not "doing" anything with it—definitely not interpreting it or analyzing it. Just feeling it and allowing it to be a part of your daily life. This practice alone is life changing. A good dream, well felt, can help you find clarity in relationships, healing of old wounds, and it can open new opportunities to explore. I have made many major life decisions based off of wisdom received through my dreams.
And what if you could do this with nearly every dream you have, so that your entire week, month, and year is suffused with insights from the divine, the cosmos, all of life? And what if, for every dream you had, you had someone to help you in your dreamwork, to help you draw personal, living meaning from these mysterious nightly images?
That's what I'm here to do as a dreamwork guide: I offer exercises, questions for reflection, and best practices to really take your dreams to where they want and need to go in your life. I don't do the "work" for you, because there really would be no benefit from that. I guide you as you live out your own exploration of your inner self.
I'll be honest with you, I offer myself as a guide in dreamwork because after decades of living, I believe it's one of the most powerful practices for knowing oneself on the planet. If I believed that something else was, I would be out doing that.
Dreamwork is one of many practices that I implement when working with clients. Along with it, I often draw on complementary wisdom practices such as the Enneagram, the Meyers-Briggs typology system, mythology and more. Using all of these other forms of insight along with dreamwork allows us to really draw out the wisdom of the dream (which also happens to be the wisdom of one's own self!)
"Dreams give information about the secrets of the inner life and reveal to the dreamer hidden factors of his personality. As long as these are undiscovered, they disturb his waking life and betray themselves only in the form of symptoms"
-Carl Jung
